Most illegal or undocumented immigrants who brought their young children with them eventually had other children born in the U.S. and hence U.S. citizens.
These parents with both U.S. citizen children and non-U.S. citizen children unlawfully in the US are often heartbroken by the choices they have to make.
How does a parent explain to his or her two teenage children, one, a U.S. citizen and the other a non-U.S. citizen that one can stay in the U.S. while the other cannot? How does he or she explain that one child must go to an unknown land while the other can remain in the U.S.? Is it because one child is better than the other? Is it because he or she is smarter and wiser or is it because fate smiled on the U.S. Citizen Child? It is heartbreaking for a parent to be put in this situation irrespective of their wrongdoing.
The critics may say, ” they deserve it, after all they made the decision to come into the U.S. illegally, they ought to have known the repercussions it will have on their children.” Indeed, ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Have you at any time been endangered, and you had to run for your life? Have you at all personally encountered the demons of poverty, have you ever wondered why individuals risk their lives to come to United States of America? Few that set off for this journey make it here. Some die during this process. They knew the risk of death was present when they embarked on this Journey, and yet they made the move. why? Was it greed, or were they just being stupid?
- For a lot of foreigners, America is the promised land.
- It’s the land flowing with milk and honey.
- It’s the land on the hill that shines brightly and beckons to others.
- It’s the land of hope, of freedom, of justice.
- It’s a land of justice even to those who have unjustly entered the land.
- It’s a land where the voiceless are given a voice.
- It’s a land where justice is tampered with mercy.
- It’s a land where your labor is rewarded if you work hard.
- It’s a land of safety, health and prosperity.
- It’s a land of hope for the hopeless and broken.
A lot of foreigners believe, that if they can make it to the promised land, there is hope of a better tomorrow and for that they are willing to sacrifice anything.
When you have never been in the shoes of most illegal or undocumented Immigrants, it is difficult, if not impossible to understand, relate or be compassionate towards them.
