Q: If I’ve been living in the U.S. without legal status for years, does that affect my ability to prove U.S. citizenship?

Does living in the U.S. undocumented affect proving citizenship?

A: Your current immigration status in the U.S., whether undocumented or on a temporary visa, does not affect your ability to prove U.S. citizenship. You can still demonstrate citizenship if you acquired it at birth. However, you will need to provide documentation and evidence to demonstrate your citizenship status.
