Q: Should I renew DACA?

I have been a DACA recipient since 06/13/13. I have since then renewed my status accordingly. My current DACA status and Employment Authorization card expires on 03/01/19. Having said that, earlier this year, my husband and I got married. We both then filed for my green card (I-130, I-485, I-864). I have already gone in for my biometrics appointment. As of July 09, 2018, my I-485 is ready to be scheduled for an interview.

Right now, I’m waiting for that interview. I checked and saw that the processing time for my office is 7.5 to 19 months.

Is it advisable to go ahead and renew my DACA?

Thank you.

A: It’s in your best interest to renew your DACA since there is no guarantee as to the outcome of your green card application or how much time it would take to complete the adjudication of your green card application. Also, bear in mind that even with the best intentions there are no guarantees in marriage. Protect yourself and keep your DACA until you have the green card in your hands. Goodluck!
