What should I do if my green card is about to expire?
If you have a 10-year Green Card, you generally should file Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, when your card has expired or will expire within six months. Filing before the expiration date does not guarantee that USCIS will issue your replacement card before your current card expires.
If you have a two-year conditional Green Card, do not use Form I-90 to renew it. You generally must file Form I-751 to remove conditions based on marriage, or Form I-829 to remove conditions based on investment. These petitions have separate filing requirements and deadlines.
Check your card’s expiration date and confirm which procedure applies to you before filing. If your card has already expired or you are unsure which form to use, seek advice about your circumstances.
