The Future of DACA for Dreamers

Dreamers

Dreamers are undocumented immigrants brought to the United States at a young age either by their parents or otherwise and have known the United States as their only home.

President Obama in 2012 through executive action granted protection from deportation through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals [DACA] to these Dreamers, to allow them to continue to make positive impacts in their respective communities and the United States through education, military service, and careers in other productive fields.

President-elect, Donald Trump promised during his election campaigns to terminate President Obama’s executive action protecting Dreamers from deportation from the United States. Following through with this campaign promise will have severe negative implications for the United States as it has invested in these dreamers in several ways.

Whether this will become a reality is yet to be seen. There is anticipation that President Trump’s administration will do the right thing and pursue a sensible and realistic immigration reform rather than go after innocent children brought to this country through no fault of theirs. These dreamers are part of the future of the United States.

Dreamers with alternative immigration options towards Permanent Resident Status or other viable immigration options are advised to seek proper legal advice.
